This deed must have been his forfeiting his land after the Revolution (for being on the wrong side). I really appreciate the history and maps provided in this link! Mr. Loyalist DeLancey was also a signer of the Declaration against the Declaration of Independence. I know at one time the street ran all the way up to Hester St. Now it ends several blocks earlier and is filled in with parking lots, recreational areas and a strip mall. Since ancestors once lived in this "redesigned area" - in the 1850's, 60's, and 70's - just wondering if it was a tenement filled neighborhood etc.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2681192941667483351.post-17593649504330610902015-08-15T09:20:36.499-04:002015-08-15T09:20:36.499-04:00EH, the Lower East Side is traditionally City Hall...EH, the Lower East Side is traditionally City Hall/Brooklyn Bridge to 14th Street and Broadway to the East River.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2681192941667483351.post-26908883845170895212015-08-02T21:54:31.510-04:002015-08-02T21:54:31.510-04:00This is excellent! Lived the longest at 412 Cherry Street. Since I'm having such a tough time researching them (can only find census records - not birth, marriage or death) I decided to try to learn as much as I can on the history of their neighborhood. Need info on Brooklyn Naval Yards next. The only Lindsey to leave LES and move west to Chicago was my <br />g-grandfather. Thanks again as this was a thoroughly enjoyable and educational experience.
